Abstract: Анотація: У статті розглядаються особливості діагностики демодекозу собак. Проведено аналіз літературних даних, які стосуються сучасної діагностики демодекозної інвазії собак. Досліджені деякі аспекти епізоотичної ситуації з демодекозу собак у Харківському регіоні, з використанням акароскопічних і копроскопічних методів лабораторної діагностики та морфометричних досліджень різних стадій розвитку демодексів. Аннотация: В статье рассматриваются особенности диагностики демодекоза собак. Проведен анализ литературных данных, касающихся современной диагностики демодекозной инвазии собак. Исследованы некоторые аспекты эпизоотической ситуации по демодекозу собак в Харьковском регионе, с использованием акароскопических, копроскопических методов лабораторной диагностики и морфометрических исследований различных стадий развития демодексов. Summary: The features of canine demodicosis diagnostics are presented in the article. The published data relating to the modern diagnostics of canine demodicosis were reviewed. According to the published data, canine demodicosis can be caused by three types of pathogens: Demodex canis, Demodex injai, Demodex cornei. They have different distribution areas, differ morphologically and may cause lesions that differ in character of clinical signs manifestation. Type of pathogen Demodex canis is the most common cause of canine demodicosis in the world and in Ukraine. The aim of our study was to investigate some aspects of laboratory diagnostics of canine demodicosis through morphometry of different stages of development of Demodex mites that were found from affected skin of animals with generalized form of demodicosis and mites that were identified using сoproscopic methods. Some aspects of epizootic situation of canine demodicosis in Kharkiv region, using akaroskopic and сoproskopic methods of laboratory diagnostics and morphometric studies of different stages of Demodex mites (eggs, larvae, nymphs, adults) were investigated. Were examined owned dogs and stray dogs that were received at the center of sterilization of homeless animals on a base of KSZVA and KP «Center for treatment of animals» at Kharkiv. For this laboratory study were investigated the akaroskopic material received from dogs of various breeds and ages. Dogs with generalized demodicosis form were studied by using method of skin scrapings and by mortal method using a 50% solution of glycerine and 10% solution of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) (anepartes), the selected сoproskopic material were studied by Fyulleborn flotation method. In order to clarify of morphological features of mites that cause canine demodicosis among dogs in the area of research, was conducted morphometric study of this mites. It was found the length and width of eggs of demodex was 42-90 (70 ± 8) μm and 26-35 (30 ± 1) μm respectively. It was found the length and the width of larvae was 92-140 (120 ± 11) μm and 24-32 (28 ± 3) μm. Length of nymphs (proto- and deytonymphs) was 140 to 189 (162 ± 9) μm, width - from 33 to 45 (39 ± 2) μm. Among imago of demodex were registered males and females, so their length ranged from 143 to 227 (197 ± 16) μm, width - from 34 to 42 (40 ± 1) μm. Installed morphometric parameters are characteristic of Demodex canis. The results of сoproskopic research of material from animals with generalized skin form of demodicosis have been reported some mites-demodex and eggs of Toxocara and Trichuris that proves the possibility of intestinal localization of Demodex. There were found mainly imago forms of Demodex. Given the peculiarities of diagnosis of canine demodicosis, it is important to determine the types of pathogens that cause the disease. This opens up the prospect of research on epizootology of canine demodicosis in Ukraine. Given the limited data and failure to prove the possibility of demodex to parasite in the internal organs, it is topical to provide the further study of the issue visceral form canine demodicosis.
